Apple may equip iPhone with dual 3D cameras next year

Authoritative analyst Ming-Chi Kuo continues to share his predictions about the next generation of Apple smartphones, which will be released in 2020. According to the expert, in a year, Apple may abandon the True Depth camera, replacing it with a more progressive ToF module.

Thanks to this innovation, the iPhone will be able not only to recognize faces with high accuracy, but also create advanced 3D models of objects. ToF cameras are based on special sensors that are capable of emitting light and registering the speed of its reflection from an object. Knowing the response time, the sensor calculates the exact distance to the object, working by analogy with a laser rangefinder. Another advantage of these cameras is that they can work at a greater distance. This feature will allow users to unlock the iPhone without holding it close to their face.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo’s forecasts, new, more advanced cameras will be installed in two of the three iPhones of the 2020 sample. In this case, ToF-modules will be located both on the front and on the back of the smartphone.
