Can watchOS 7 be installed on Apple Watch Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3?

The watchOS 7 update is another big step for Apple Watch. Unfortunately, it did not include support for third-party watch faces, as requested by users, but Apple branded watch faces have become more customizable. And that is not all.

The update also adds a new sleep tracker app, detects when you wash your hands and starts a timer, adds new workouts, improves Siri, and more.

Does watchOS 7 support Apple Watch Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3?

At WWDC 2020, Apple executives said watchOS 7 is only compatible with Apple Watch Series 3 and later. Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2 owners, unfortunately, will not receive the Apple watchOS 7 operating system update this fall.

Apple doesn’t drop support for these devices without good reason, so it’s likely that some of the new features in watchOS 7 simply require more powerful hardware. The new Apple Watch models feature dual-core S-Series chips, making the Series 3 watch approximately 70% faster than the S2-powered Series 2.

This decision will disappoint owners of older Apple Watch, but it is just a tribute to the need to develop watchOS.
