Porsche partnered with Apple to integrate Apple Music into its future version of the Taycan EV, a German car maker said Monday (via TechCrunch).

The announcement means that owners of an all-electric sports car will be able to access Apple's music streaming service through the car’s infotainment display without having to connect a smartphone.

For the first time, Apple Music will be available as a native application on any vehicle. Previously, the only way to access the service was to pair the phone through the Apple CarPlay proprietary interface.

Porsche says CarPlay will also be included in the Taycan EV, but customers will have direct access to the Apple Music song library, playlists, and Beats 1 radio stations via the car’s built-in cellular connection.

All they need to do is link their Apple ID to their Porsche account, after which they will be able to control Apple Music using the Taycan voice assistant system.

Porsche says users can also create their own Apple Music stations from any song they hear while listening to the radio. The German car maker also plans to release exclusive playlists that will only be available through Apple Music.

Porsche intends to provide new and existing customers with free access to Apple Music for six months. TechCrunch says it’s ultimately planning to add the Apple Music app to all of its new cars that can support the service.

Apple Music costs $ 9.99 per month for an individual membership. The streaming service has recently exceeded 60 million subscribers, and its wise use in cars makes sense, given Apple's growing dependence on services as a source of revenue.

Perhaps this partnership reflects a deal Apple made with Samsung to integrate iTunes movies and TV shows, as well as support for AirPlay 2 in its latest smart TVs.

The all-electric Porsche Taycan should be introduced in early September and should go on sale by the end of the year.
